A Little About Me

A Little About Me

Hi! I’m Ciara Word, the face behind Word Interiors.

Before we get into opinions, tips and tricks, and things I love enough to recommend, I thought it might be helpful to start here. After all, it’s easier to understand the ideas when you know the person behind them- and this felt like a good place to begin.

I started Word Interiors as my own design studio in 2022 after training under an established designer for five and a half years. During that time, I was deeply involved in the behind-the-scenes processes of the studio, which gave me a strong foundation not just in design, but in how projects truly come together. After having my first child in late 2020- and with an increasing need for flexibility- I knew it was time to build something of my own.

Fast forward a few years, and my husband and I now have two wonderful little girls. Life with them is what most inspires my design philosophy: that homes are meant to be truly lived in. Comfort and beauty don’t compete- they work hand in hand. A home can be thoughtful, layered, and beautiful while still supporting real, everyday life.

Today, we live in Northeast Alabama in a classic Georgian home from the 1950s that we revitalized and renovated. Most days start with school drop-off before I head into my workday, helping clients experience fully realized spaces of their own. I’m constantly paying attention to how spaces are used- how people move through them, where they naturally gather, and what makes a room feel finished rather than just filled.

Design, for me, has always been about more than selecting pretty things. It’s about translating life into space. I care just as much about how a home functions on an ordinary Tuesday as I do about how it feels when the table is full and the lights are low.

Outside of client work, you’ll usually find me enjoying a few of my favorite things- weekend entertaining, pilates, pickleball, and Mahjong (where my prized skill is being able to tell exactly what hand my opponents are playing)!

If you’re here because you’re thinking about working together, I’m so glad you found your way here. And if you’re simply here to read along, welcome! I hope this space feels thoughtful, inspiring, and just a little bit like home.
